Ultra Violet Sterilizers Information
UV light destroys the cell DNA (or RNA in the case of viruses) making the micro organisms inactive. Our UV water filters employ a low pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp surrounded by a water jacket whose inner wall is made from a special UVC transparent quartz material. the lamp produces a very strong spectral line at 254 nm in the shortwave UVC region, which is the waveband most lethal to micro organisms.
Our units use a stainless steel water chamber maximising full use of the available ultra violet energy resulting in long exposure times and high UV doses whilst minimising UV light absorption into the chamber wall.
Please note that UV sterilizers do not improve the taste of the feed water. They should be incorporated into a system which utilises the appropriate water filters to remove particles and to treat the water to make it palatable.
