John Guest SuperBike VansSunday 6th September saw the North West round of the British Superbikes championship at Oulton Park, Cheshire. Aqua Cure Managing Director Mark Brown, a keen motorcyclist was delighted to accept an invitation from John Guest to visit the event to get a look behind the scenes of a top British Superbike race team. JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s leading rider James Ellison sits 3rd in the BSB Championship at present.

James visited the JG guests between races on Sunday.

United Utilities are continuing to advise customers in some areas of Lancashire to boil their water 3 weeks after suffering an outbreak of cryptosporidium, a microscopic parasite, at their Franklaw Water Treatment plant in Catterall, near Garstang.

Resources are available online to help you ascertain if your property or business is in an affected location, including a map and a post code checker on the United Utilities website.

The outbreak is currently affecting around 300,000 households and businesses and United Utilities are now installing ultra violet sterilisers at various points in their network in a bid to kill the parasite. However, according to the Lancashire Evening Post today, a United Utilities spokesman has stated that the systems “won’t be operational until towards the end of the week” and with 2,500 miles of pipes and water mains to flush, “a decision on lifting the boil water alert is not imminent”. If you have been affected and would like impartial advice or details of possible filtration solutions, please feel free to call us on 01704 516916.

Aqua Cure's Alex Nicholson & Stuart Godfrey

Alex is welcomed to her new role by Key Account Manager, Stuart Godfrey.

Aqua Cure are exceptionally pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Nicholson as Trade Sales Manager.

Alex has proven company and industry knowledge having been a key player in the Aqua Cure sales team for many years. She will be returning slightly earlier than originally planned from maternity leave in order to take up the post.

Managing Director, Mark Brown said that as Trade Sales Manager, Alex “will be hitting the ground running and will apply her own ideas and initiatives into this role for the future”.

The whole Aqua Cure sales team all very much look forward to welcoming Alex back to the office in her new role.

Aqua Cure N-UV Ultra Violet SystemsAqua Cure have won a potentially significant order: for their new range of N-UV ultra violet sterilisers to be supplied to Virgin Trains. Two of the 24 watt versions of the stainless steel steriliser will be specified for each of the diesel fleet’s 15 catering carriages on the East Coast Mainline.

All water used for on-board catering appliances will be treated by the systems on the journeys between London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Leeds.

Aqua Cure Managing Director Mark Brown is pictured (left) with Warren Johnston, Systems Engineering Manager at Virgin’s Edinburgh depot.

The contract is extremely promising for Aqua Cure, the successful introduction of their U.V. systems on the East Coast Mainline potentially provides an opportunity to quote for the electric fleet when the contract for the supply of U.V. systems comes up for renewal soon.

Avex International 2015Aqua Cure are very pleased to be back at AVEX for the 2015 event, to be held at Manchester Central on 30th June and 1st July.

Focusing on the coffee, vending and water industries, AVEX will see 101 exhibitors and over 3,000 visitors during its two days.

Aqua Cure will be at stand 52 where we will be ably supported by our supply partners Pentair Everpure. Accordingly we will be displaying a number of items from Everpure’s diverse product range including a full set of Claris Ultra cartridges, the MRS reverse osmosis unit for the food service market and a selection of ice machine, coffee machine, cold cup and water fountain filters.

We will also be be distributing Everpure’s Water For Coffee Lovers booklet on the stand to promote the importance of water in making the perfect brew.

As an amusing aside, AVEX 2015 will be celebrating the anniversary of the invention of the vending machine.

Now, how long ago do you think the first vending machine was built?

Guess again… the first coin operated vending machine was designed and built 2000 years ago in ancient Greece by the mathematician and engineer Hero of Alexandria. Hero’s device, which resembled a large vase, dispensed holy water when a coin was inserted, thus freeing up the temple priests to deal with more pressing matters.

To see how the vending industry has progressed in the last two millennia, visit the AVEX International 2015 vending conference, not forgetting to stop by the Aqua Cure stand. To make an appointment to see how we can save you money on maintenance for mains-fed vending or coffee machines, please contact us.

Race_For_Life_logoIn bright but windy weather yesterday, Aqua Cure’s Bev Baybutt and Kayleigh Worthington both completed the Southport ‘Race For Life’ held at Princes Park to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Southport Race For Life

Aqua Cure’s intrepid duo: Kayleigh Worthington (left) and Bev Baybutt.

Bev completed the 5 kilometre distance in 48 minutes and raised £224 and Kayleigh in 56 minutes, raising £176. Aqua Cure are proud to have contributed, sponsoring Bev and Kayleigh £50 each.

Bev was inspired to participate in honour of her friend Linda who was diagnosed with cervical cancer last year. “When it touches your best friend, it affects everything” Bev told me. Happily Linda was able to compete in the event and ran alongside Bev.

Kayleigh completed the event in memory of her granddad who lost his battle with cancer in March.

Bev described the event as “a fantastic day, the atmosphere was brilliant”. With encouragement from the crowd, participants “sprinted to the line and were greeted with glass of prosecco”.

And a very well earned one as well by the sounds of it. “I haven’t sprinted in years” laughs Bev, “I didn’t know whether my legs would do it – but they did!”

Bev and Kayleigh are both planning to take part next year with Bev hoping not only to “run faster and get a better time” but also to “get more Aqua Cure staff involved”.

Well done to both Bev and Kayleigh and we all look forward to supporting / sponsoring you next year.

Aqua Cure are finalists in the ‘Vendies’, a vending industry award that recognises innovation and success – how exciting!

Aqua Cure are nominated in the Best Ancillary Product category for their new Byotrol Dispense System.

The award is decided by a vote by members of the industry so if you’re involved in the vending market then please vote for us!

Voting closes on 5th June and the awards ceremony will be on Thursday 1 July at the Hilton in Manchester Deansgate. For more information and to vote, please see

The Byotrol Dispense System

Byotrol Dispense System & Refill Pouch

Byotrol Dispense System & Refill Pouch

The Byotrol dispense system that we’ve been nominated for is designed to accurately dilute Byotrol’s patented and long-lasting sanitiser concentrate at the point of use and dispense it into a spray bottle, providing an economic, safe and reliable solution for managing sanitiser usage.

By providing an effective and safe method of diluting and dispensing sanitiser concentrate, both Byotrol and Aqua Cure hope that this system will encourage operators to move away from inefficient and expensive ‘ready to use’ sanitisers, resulting in both cost savings and environmental benefits.

SCAE UK Barista ChampionshipsIf you’re a regular frequenter of high street coffee chains, you can’t help but have noticed the word ‘barista’ written on the shirt of the person who serves you your frappe-latte-chino. But did you know (such is the UK’s coffee fixation) that there’s actually a UK Barista Championship?

SCAE UK Barista Championships 2014It’s organised and hosted by Essential Cafe Magazine and sanctioned by the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE) with the finals taking place at the London Coffee Festival on Sunday 6th April next year. It’s a serious affair, with strict time constraints and a panel of two technical judges and four sensory judges giving scores to each barista.

As you’d expect, the baristas in question are provided with the best raw ingredients to make the four espressos, four cappuccinos and four espresso-based speciality drinks that they will be judged on. As such, it’s no surprise that Pentair filtration products have been specified to treat the water used during the competition.

Tony Monks, marketing manager at Pentair Foodservice, believes that the quality of Pentair’s filtration products is an ideal match for the baristas perfectionism, saying “We are delighted to be the water sponsors for the SCAE UK Barista Championships 2015, hosted by our good friends at Essential Café Magazine. We share the same passion for quality as the baristas striving to reach the very top of their game and so are delighted that our products will be used to help the contestants create the very best beverages they can in their quest to be crowned the UK’s very best.”

Aqua Cure will also be in attendance at the London Coffee Festival (more on this soon). For more on both the Coffee Festival and the UK Barista Championship, please see their respective websites.
